Or: Why we’d like to have a word with Tim Cook this Christmas.

There are two kinds of people in the North West right now:

  1. Those talking about Apple’s rumoured new budget MacBook.
  2. And those in Lancashire and Manchester who saw the codename — J700 — and thought, “Hang on a minute… who’s copying who?”

Yes, really.

According to several tech publications, Apple is reportedly working on a new low-cost MacBook launching in 2026, codenamed, wait for it… J700.

Coincidence? Probably.
Funny? Absolutely.

In the spirit of festive fun (and mild brand confusion), let’s break down what this mysterious “J700” could be  and whether Apple should be sending us royalties.

What is Apple’s Rumoured J700?

Industry rumours suggest the J700 will be:

  • A low-cost MacBook aimed at students and casual users
  • Powered by an iPhone-style A-series chip, instead of Apple’s usual M-series
  • A device with a budget LCD screen and lighter build, giving it a “Chromebook-style” feel
  • Expected to launch in early 2026
  • Priced well under £1,000 (Apple-speak for “affordable-ish”)

Think of it as Apple saying: “Siri, make me a MacBook, but… like… don’t try too hard.”

But Let’s Talk About the Real J700…

Here in Lancashire, the name J700 already means something very real:

  • IT support
  • Cybersecurity
  • Cloud solutions
  • Connectivity
  • Actual people you can call (and we answer — shocking, we know)

We’ve been using the name for years.
We didn’t expect to share it with a global tech giant…
…but if Apple wants to collaborate, our inbox is open.

Should We Send Apple an Invoice?

Let’s be honest, the idea of Apple’s legal team explaining “J700 Group” to Tim Cook is worth the article alone.

“Sir… there’s a company in Lancashire who had the name first.”
“…In Lancashire?”
“…Yes sir.”

We’re not saying Apple copied us.
We’re just saying… if they did, we’d appreciate at least a free iPad for the office.
Maybe two.
Or twelve.

What Does Apple’s Rumoured J700 Mean for Local Businesses?

Okay, jokes aside, the rumours point to something interesting:

Apple may be entering the low-cost laptop market, directly competing with Chromebooks and other affordable devices used in education and small businesses.

This could mean:

  • More affordable Apple devices for SMEs
  • Longer device lifecycles (Apple loves a quiet refresh)
  • A possible shift in workplace tech choices
  • Cheaper entry points for SMEs looking to adopt Apple hardware

But let’s be clear: even the fanciest laptop doesn’t stop phishing emails, ransomware or holiday hackers.

That’s why the real J700 is here to keep local businesses secure, Apple product or not.

Final Thoughts: Apple, Call Us.

We’re not saying Apple stole our name.
We’re not not saying it either.

But if the J700 does launch, we’ll happily take credit for inspiring Apple’s naming strategy.
After all, Lancashire innovation travels far.

Until then, we will continue being the original J700the team that keeps your business running, protected, and supported.

If Apple wants to chat, we’ll put the kettle on.
